1. What Swarovski® crystals are
Swarovski® is an Austrian brand with a history going back to 1895. The company became known for machine cutting of crystal, which made especially precise and identical facets possible.
Swarovski® crystals are made of crystal glass with a special composition. They are not natural stones, but they are not ordinary decorative glass either: what sets them apart is the quality of the material, the precision of the work and a carefully calculated cut.
At DiamondSky we use Swarovski® crystals in models where clean sparkle, an exact shade and identical stone size matter most.
2. How they differ from ordinary glass
Precise cut. The facets sit at calculated angles and meet each other neatly. Because of this the light reflects more brightly and gives that distinctive play of highlights.
Identical size and colour. Crystals from the same series match one another well in shape, size and shade. For jewelry with several stones this matters especially — the composition looks neat and whole.
Decorative coatings. Some Swarovski® shades gain an extra effect from special coatings that create rainbow, mirror or light-dependent shifting reflections.
Stable appearance. The crystal itself should not cloud over from ordinary wear. Loss of sparkle usually comes from a film of cosmetics, cream or skin oils, which is easy to remove with a soft cloth.
3. A crystal and a gemstone are not the same
A Swarovski® crystal is not a diamond and does not belong to natural gemstones. In the description of every DiamondSky piece we always state which stones the model contains.
In hardness a crystal is below a diamond and some natural stones, so it is worth protecting it from hard knocks, scratches and constant contact with other jewelry.
Swarovski® crystals have a different job: to give a piece expressive sparkle, clean colour and a complex play of light without the price of a natural gemstone.
4. How to be sure where the crystals come from
DiamondSky jewelry uses Swarovski® crystals bought from official wholesale suppliers and directly from Swarovski® itself.
Visually, a good crystal has neat symmetrical facets, a clean surface and an even shade. If a piece has several identical stones, they should match one another well in colour and size.
5. How to care for Swarovski® crystals
For everyday care a soft dry cloth is enough. If a noticeable film has appeared on the surface, gently wipe the crystal with a slightly damp cloth and dry it right away.
Pieces with crystals are better not soaked for long or cleaned with harsh products. If the crystals are set with glue, long contact with water can weaken the joint over time.
Perfume, creams, hairspray and other cosmetics are best applied before you put the piece on. That way less film settles on the crystals and they keep their sparkle longer.
