Preciosa is a Czech maker of crystal stones from Jablonec nad Nisou. Glass has been melted in that area since the 16th century, and the company in its present form was put together from local workshops in 1948.
What these stones are
A Preciosa crystal is neither a natural stone nor a fake diamond, but a special glass cut on a machine. The cut follows the same logic as with precious stones: light enters the stone, bounces off the lower facets and comes back to the eye as one gathered beam. Hence the sharp, cold sparkle.
Colour comes in two ways: some shades are in the glass itself, others come from a coating on the facets. The first never fade, the second last for years of ordinary wear.
The premium line
Preciosa has several lines of stones that differ in the precision of the cut. In our jewellery we use the premium one: it has more facets and tighter tolerances, so the stones in a piece look the same and do not differ in brightness.

What we make from them
Earrings, pendants, rings, bracelets and sets, from everyday pieces to wedding ones. The crystals go into 925 silver and into jewellery alloy with rhodium or gold plating.
How to keep the sparkle
A crystal is harmed by chemistry rather than by knocks. Take the piece off before a shower, a pool or cleaning, and put on perfume and hairspray before you put the jewellery on.
Wipe it with a dry soft cloth and keep it apart from other jewellery: facets scratch each other, and that is what dulls the sparkle fastest.
